The Impeccable Music

Primer: Aldous Harding Tour of New Zealand

Primer: Aldous Harding Tour of New Zealand

Arising from humble beginnings in Lyttelton’s folk audio local community, Aldous Harding aka Hannah Harding seems to have entered what could described as the “imperial period” of her profession — a phrase initially coined by Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys to articulate that time period when a musician is regarded to be at their professional and inventive peak concurrently. Harding’s new file Heat Chris (out now on Traveling Nun / 4Advertisement) veers further more from folky roots to delve down offbeat avenues, coaxing gruff Sleaford Mods frontman Jason Williamson to have a crack at Nico-esque balladry on closing collab ‘Leathery Whip’. Sculpting resonant styles from Western avant-pop / rock’s loaded tradition, the Aotearoa songwriter’s cryptic lyrical strategy often outings up reviewers and interviewers alike, irrespective of Harding’s forthright, no-nonsense conversational design and style. Even the title of Heat Chris provokes secret, our present UTR place of work idea is it is a cosy play on “Very hot Toddy”?

Presently primarily based in Wales, Harding returns to Aotearoa in October for a fast marketing-out, a few date nationwide tour. To assist prep your ears (and eyes) for Harding’s initial regional demonstrates since 2020, we have collected here in a single useful place all the video clips produced for the singles from Warm Chris so far, plus as a bonus 2021’s standalone ‘Old Peel’…
