The 2022 Grammys featured some of the biggest stars stepping out in style to celebrate the year’s biggest achievements in music.

After scaling back the ceremony last year due to COVID-19, the Grammys opted for a full-scale celebration at the GM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

One of the best things about the Grammys red carpet is that essentially, anything goes. Artists are encouraged to go as bold and as bizarre as possible, unlike the Oscars or Emmys red carpet where traditional Hollywood glamour is the norm.

However, even though we love when our favourite stars swing for the fences, there are still some that pull off fashion risks better than others.

Our team of Yahoo Canada editors reviewed the 2022 Grammy red carpet and after much deliberation, have made our picks for the best and worst dressed stars of the night.

BEST: Lady Gaga

The Grammys were made for stars like Lady Gaga. The singer’s classic Armani gown was the perfect choice to do to celebrate her five nominations for her jazz album, “Love For Sale” with Tony Bennett. A timeless gown for a timeless talent.

WORST: Carrie Underwood

Underwood’s marigold ombré gown by Dolce & Gabbana went for Disney princess but landed in Scarlett O’Hara’s curtains territory.

BEST: Olivia Rodrigo

The 19-year-old “Drivers License” singer’s trompe-l’œil Vivienne Westwood dress, gloves and jewellery proved why she has quickly become a Gen Z fashion icon. The illusion silhouette combined with simple hair and makeup were the perfect choice for Rodrigo’s Grammys debut.

WORST: Billie Eilish

Following last week’s Oscars red carpet, Eilish doubled down on her preference for oversized red carpet looks with this ensemble by Rick Owens. While we’ve come to appreciate the star for her unique sense of style, the bizarre blazer/cape combo and sunglasses felt more like a disguise than a look befitting a Grammy and Oscar winner.

BEST: Hailey Bieber

The model’s ethereal Saint Laurent gown was a masterpiece in minimalist styling on the Grammys red carpet. From the Tiffany diamonds to the simple braided hairstyle, Bieber proved that less can be more when it comes to red carpet fashion.

WORST: Justin Bieber

Bieber’s oversized Balenciaga suit and platform shoes made the star look more like a boy playing dress-up than one-half of Hollywood’s most popular couples.

BEST: Chrissy Teigen

Teigen’s ruffled bubblegum pink gown by Nicole + Felicia Couture was a welcomed bright spot on the Grammys red carpet. The model’s statement earrings and rosy coloured makeup made this fashion swing a red carpet home run.

WORST: Avril Lavigne

The Canadian songstress’s ruffled black gown with high-low hemline by House of Mua Mua wasn’t up to par for the pop-punk princess. We would have liked to see Lavigne in something a little more modern and fitted while still showing off her wild and colourful sense of style.

BEST: Halsey

It’s hard to believe just days before hitting the red carpet, the singer was undergoing surgery to treat her endometriosis. Halsey’s contemporary take on Hollywood noire-inspired fashion made for one of the star’s best red carpet moments to date.

WORST: Dua Lipa

Lipa’s cosplay as Donatella Versace at this year’s Grammys was a rare fashion misstep for the “Levitating” songstress.

BEST: Doja Cat

The “Say So” singer’s aquamarine gown by Atelier Versace and throwback hairstyle was a masterclass in how to bring Y2K-inspired looks to a 2022 red carpet.

WORST: Maren Morris

Morris’s custom Dolce & Gabbana dress is one snakeskin look we’d like the star to shed in favour of something more commanding of attention.

BEST: Laverne Cox

Cox’s edgy John Galliano look was perfectly complemented by the star’s violet-coloured hair and smokey eye makeup.

WORST: Megan Thee Stallion

The “Body” rapper’s Roberto Cavalli gown is one animal print look that should have been kept in the wild.
